Ondese Marsh Owl Fly-In Safari, Botswana, Africa

Marsh Owl Fly-In Safari,
12 Days (Botswana)

Fly-In Safari to the Makgadikgadi Pans, the Moremi Wildlife Reserve, the Linyanti Swamps, the Chobe National Park and to the Okavango Swamps in Botswana.

Day 1 : Arrival at Maun Airport in beautiful Botswana. After customs, you will be met by a representative of a local charter flight company for your air-transfer to Jack's / San Camp on the Makgadikgadi Pans in the Botswanan Kalahari. Overnight in traditional and stylish tents with open-air en-suite bucket showers and toilets. Whereas Jack's Camp has flush toilets, San Camp is only erected seasonally and provides pit lavatories (known locally as long-drops). These camps may not have electricity, but you will not lack for comforts: tables are decked with damask and bone-handled silver and there are Persian rugs underfoot!

Day 2 : Take in the vastness of the Makgadikgadi. Here you might be able to view the brown hyena, one of Africa's rarest endangered carnivores; you can walk through the desert with Bushmen; in the winter, take quad-bike trips on the salt pans, and in summer, view southern Africa's last surviving zebra and wildebeest migration. Accommodation as on the previous day.

Day 3 : Spend another day with your hosts and expert guides, who will tell you more about flora, fauna and the archaeology of this stunning area and who will surprise you with small treasures. Accommodation as on the previous day.

Day 4 : Transfer to the airfield and charter flight via Maun to the airfield of Xakanaxa in the Moremi Wildlife Reserve, on the edge of the Okavango Delta. Transfer to Camp Xakanaxa. The contrast between the vastness of the Makgadikgadi and the plethora of the delta could not be greater. Overnight in a luxury tent with en-suite facilities.

Day 5 : Take in a game drive or boat cruise in this lush and unspoilt park, which abounds with wildlife. Accommodation as on the previous day.

Day 6 : In the course of the morning, transfer by air from Moremi to the landing strip of The Selinda Camp. The camp is located inside the Selinda Reserve along the Selinda Spillway, which links the Okavango Delta with the Linyanti Swamps. This is Big Game Country with outstanding game-viewing opportunities. Overnight under canvas in the old African tradition.

Day 7 : Your hosts will take you on game drives in open vehicles and you can also enjoy short walks. Accommodation as on the previous day.

Day 8 : Transfer by charter flight to Kasane in northern Botswana. From here you will be transferred to the Chobe Chilwero Lodge, situated close to town overlooking the Chobe River. Enjoy guided game drives in the Chobe National Park. Overnight in a room at this lodge.

Day 9 : You have the choice of viewing game from an open vehicle or from a boat on the Chobe River. The Chobe is famous for its great herds of elephants. Accommodation as on the previous day.

Day 10 : Transfer back to the Kasane Airport and fly to the airfield of the Chief's Camp. This hidden camp is situated on the Chief's Island, deep in the Okavango Delta. Overnight in a tastefully designed luxury tent with en-suite facilities.

Day 11 : Enjoy one of the greatest wildlife-viewing opportunities in Africa from boats or on foot in these open floodplains and swamp. Accommodation as previous day.

Day 12 : Air transfer back to Maun Airport.
