Ondese Puku Fly-In and Overland Safari, Zambia, Africa

Puku Safari,
15 Days (Zambia)

Gem of Zambia Safari visiting the South Luangwa, the Lower Zambesi and the North Kafue National Parks.

Arrival at the Lusaka International Airport in Zambia with the British Airways flight from London. You will be met by a representative of another local airline and connect a flight to Mfuwe Airport. Here your guide welcomes you and brings you to one of the exclusive and beautiful Robin Pope Safari camps along the Luangwa River in the stunning South Luangwa National Park.

The next five nights overnight in the camps Nkwali, Tena Tena and Nsefu, which are all three very different in appearance and location. You spend the days with game drives, walks and night drives under the care of expert guides. The Luangwa Valley, which marks the end of the Great Rift Valley, is one of the last unspoilt wilderness areas and possibly the finest wildlife sanctuary in Africa. The South Luangwa National Park covers an area of over 9 000 kmē through which the meandering Luangwa River runs. The ox bow lagoons, woodland and plains of the valley host huge concentrations of game - including elephant, buffalo, leopard, lion, giraffe, hippo - and over 400 species of birds.

Transfer to the Mfuwe Airport and flight via Lusaka to the Jeki airfield in the lush Lower Zambesi National Park. Here you will be welcomed by your experienced guide and get a transfer to Sausage Tree Camp (or Chiawa Camp), which is situated on the bank of the Zambesi River. Spend the next four nights with game drives, walks, canoeing and boat trips in this area. With the dramatic backdrop of the Zambesi escarpment and the wide, clear-watered Zambesi River the Lower Zambesi National Park has spectacular landscapes and views. The game-viewing is excellent and the boating/canoeing on the river gives a varied safari. The elephants and buffalo regularly cross the river and feed together with the hippopotami on the grass-covered islands.

Transfer to Jeki airfield and flight to Lunga airfield in the North Kafue National Park. Overnight the next five nights in the Lunga River Lodge and the Busanga Plains Bush Camp and enjoy game drives and walks in the park. The Northern Kafue National Park is a mix of Miombo forest broken by 'dambos', a local term for open grass areas. It is particularly good habitat for sable, roan and Lichtenstein's hartebeest as well as reedbuck and oribi. The major rivers in the area are the Kafue and the Lunga, which are clear flowing with thick, lush green riverine vegetation lining the banks, hosting rich bird life.

Transfer to Lunga and flight back to the Lusaka International Airport to connect to your British Airways flight out.
